BEYSAD’S VISIT TO POLAND’S WHITE GOODS SECTOR
8-12 June 2015

BEYSAD organized a program to visit the firms of Whirlpool-Indesit, Electrolux and BSH with a group of 24 people from 19 firms between the dates 8-12 June 2015. We hope to achieve important projects in cooperation after this productive program and thank our members participating in these visits. On the first day of our trip, we travelled to the city of Wroclow on bus following our flight to the country. It was a pleasant trip, even if just a bit tiring.

On June 9, Mr. Fabio Scaltritti (Wroclow Site Leader-Member of the Management Board), Dear İlyas Kil (Commodity Manager) and Dear Ali Burak Çetinoğlu (Procurement Project Manager) welcomed us at Whirlpool-Indesit facilities. Firstly, we watched the presentation on Whirlpool-Indesit prepared by Mr. Fabio.

At the Wroclaw facility of Whirlpool, ovens, dish washers and refrigerators are manufactured. Washing machine is produced at the factory in Slovenia. Annual market need for appliances in Europe is 60 million products; Whirlpool has a turnover of 20 billion dollars on a global basis. It allocated 1 billion dollars to R&D activities each year. It offers its products to most of the countries with its 70 production and R&D centers and employees more than 100,000. It was stated that after its acquisition of Indesit, the firm took the first place across all regions in terms of production and capacity. It has 25 factories in 5 main geographic regions.

  1. Global turnover 20 billion USD
  2. Global R&D expenditure 1 billion USD
  3. Market leader in Europe, North America, South America, Russia.
  4. Market leader in China except for Chinese manufacturers
    • Whirlpool+Indesit Europe/Middle East/North Africa Regions
    • 16 Factories
    • Purchasing Turnover 4 billion USD

Then, BEYSAD Vice Chairman Dear Burak Özaydemir shared an introduction film and information presentation on BEYSAD. Following plaque awarding, factory visit was done in two groups. Lunch break was given and an informative presentation related to the merger of Whirlpool-Indesit was shared by İlyas Kil at the same meeting room. After this very productive presentation, one to one meetings were made between our member firms and purchasing authorities.

In the morning of June 10, we went to Electrolux Swidnica Facilities and Dear Sebastian Gulka (current Plant Manager, soon will go to USA) welcomed us there.

Our program started with BEYSAD and after the presentation made by Mr. Burak, Mr. Gulka took the stage.

Electrolux has 4 factories in Poland including dish washer, washing machine, cooking appliances and drying machine factories.

Electrolux brands:

Electrolux- ElectroluxRex – AEG- VosElectroux- HusgvarnaElectrolux-

High end brands: Zanussi –Rosenlew-HektroHelios-Zoppas – Faure

Special brands: IKEA, Progress- John Lewis –Neue –Zanker –Leonard- Philco

After Whirlpool acquisition of Indesit, Electrolux has become in the third place of European appliances sector.

Ranking in Europe: BSH/ Whirlpool/ Electrolux

A new factory investment is not planned but there can be some improvements related to capacity increases for current factories. Amica is their strongest competitor in the local market... Washing machine and dish washer factories of Amica were sold to Samsung, the oven factory is still owned by Amica...

After the presentation of Mr. Gulka, Plaque Ceremony was performed and a tour of the facility was made before lunch. Then, we took the road to the city of Lodz.

On Thursday, June 11, we were welcomed and hosted warmly at Lodz BSH Facilities. Mr. Thomazs Lodynski ((Purchasing Director of Production Materials Poland) did the honours. The program was started with the senior executive of BSH, Dear Oliver Giersberg.

BSH has the factories of washing machine, dish washer and drying machine in Lodz. There are central purchasing and logistics centers. After the acquisition of Zelmet which is the most famous brand of small home appliances in Poland in 2013, 23 million units were produced at the Lodz factory. BSH bought the FagorMastercook oven factory in Wroclaw at the end of 2014.

Only one supply chain was integrated with an organizational change in 2014. The supply management was divided into 3 parts:

  • Commodity Management: plastics, metal, electric, electronic parts, branding, packaging and molds.
  • Category management, new projects: refrigerator, oven, dish washer, washing machine, new projects.
  • Supplier Management: Auditing, approval, project development, cost decreasing, performance and risk management, corporate responsibility.

After Mr. Giersberg, an introduction and presentation on behalf of BEYSAD was performed by Young Beysad member Dear Tolga Başoğlu. Then, a few technical presentations were made by Mr. Thomas Lodynski. Finally, the facility tour was made.

They have started to apply ONE Integrated Supply Chain program since June 1. One audit process is enough (Product groups do not perform auditing separately.) They conduct supplier visits of 4 or 5 days. Identifying inefficient processes during these visits, they provide help for fixing these processes and earnings are shared with the suppliers in two equal parts in the first year and the whole earnings are used for BSH in the second year. Drying machine factory is the only factory of BSH.

After lunch, special introduction and information presentations according to product groups were performed and then one-to-one meetings were held between our members and purchasing authorities.

We headed to Warsaw after the meetings.

In the morning of June 12, while our members were making a city tour, our vice chairman Burak Özaydemir, BoD member Erdoğan Kalay and Berrak Çekin visited Dear Murad Başoğlu who is our old member and founder of CME firm in İstanbul and Poland along with Poland Trade Principal Consultant Dear Koray Akgüloğlu. Mr. Başoğlu was with us throughout our travel and provided support before the trip. We received information on the economy of the country from them.

Finally, we ended our trip after the presentation of plaques.

We thank our all friends who support us before and during the travel. Dear Murad Başoğlu, Dear Ceren Ballık, BoD Members, Dear İlyas Kil, Dear Ulaş Özen, Mehmet Binatlı from Motiva Tour and all participants...So glad we have you...
